Barcelona-based fashion label Desigual has 200 stores worldwide, but only seven in the U.S., including the two-level Union Square flagship that opened in February.  They’ve plans for major growth, though, so expect to see more of them in the coming months. 

Known for lavish opening parties (the SF store drew 600) and come-in-your-undies sales events, the colorful brand’s store design is all about stimulating the senses. Per the Desigual Company Profile: “We work with light to create spaces in which the imagination is allowed to run free, in which the illumination of the clothes creates alternative worlds to make the shopping experience a totally different kind of pleasure.” 

If you haven’t yet had that pleasure, this video of their Las Arenas store remake in Barcelona (the entire process, artfully documented) will make you want to. Pop over to the Union Square store when you’re in town for the conference and see the bazaar-inspired interior that’s a mix of bold, happy and sophisticated—not unlike the merchandise on display.
